Valentines Day – This day is supposedly about Love, and yet it creates more grief than I’m sure it does love.
If you’re in love and remembered it’s great. But for the most part it attacks the ego with a vengeance, leaving you feeling not good enough or a screw up, either because once again you’re alone or just because you screwed up and forgot to do something for the one you love.
We put so much pressure on those in our life and ourselves. We sit back and wait to see what they will do for us. Will they remember, will they do something wonderful or fall short and do something lame and last minute? And for ourselves – if we are not in love, have no one to love, no one who loves us – does it mean we are out of love? That we are unlovable?
Why do we do this? Why does one day create so much angst? Who decided that one day determines whether you are deserving, worthy, or good enough to be loved.
You can’t blame it all on Hallmark. None of this hoopla over cards, flowers, chocolates, edible underwear, jewellery, would even exist if we didn’t buy into it.
So how be we pause; step back – or better yet sit down.
The heart is said to represent our truth and the truth is that innately we are all love and therefore loving and loveable. This truth has nothing to do with someone else. All on our own we are born with love.
On Tuesday February 14, 2012 take a moment and think from your heart, your truth and know that you are love.
After this, if you still need chocolate – go ahead.
